Review: Dayhunter by Jocelynn Drake

Mira isn't your average vampire. Well, unless of course you consider a fire starter vampire normal. She's teamed up with a vampire hunter, one of her so-called makers, and a few other people that want her dead. But the crisis at hand is more important and they need her if they want to survive.

Mira doesn't want anyone to depend on her and she sure as hell doesn't want to have to depend on someone else. Or so she thought. When she decides to take Tristan under her wing and save him from his creator, she convinces herself that once the danger has diminished, they will go their separate ways. But as time passes she begins to question everything. She will have to put her trust in her enemies and she's less than comfortable with that idea. Is she capable of relying on someone else for help? Even the ones who wish her dead? She knows deep down that they all must put aside their differences and work together if they wish to defeat the naturi who will reek havoc on the entire planet. Can they work together if it means saving themselves and humanity?

The only problem I had with this book is that it came to an end and the next book in the series Dawnbreaker, won't to be released until September 29,2009

Review & Giveaway: One Deadly Sin by Annie Solomon

My Review:
Edie Swann is not your girl next door. She's a tattooed biker chic with attitude. She returns to the quiet small town of Redbud to clear her father's name. The town declared it suicide, but Edie's conviced that's not the whole story. Or if it is, someone pushed him to end his own life. Finding out the truth is er only mission. Until she meets dreamy Sheriff Holt Drennan. Holt and Edie are instantly attracted like magnets.

When people start dying and the evidence points to the woman he wants he's torn. Should he continue as the straight laced officer of the law or believe Edie?

If you're searching for a fast-paced, gripping read, this is your book. Within the first chapter you will be hooked. Annie Solomon keeps you on the edge of seat. I didn't want this book to end. I've added the author to my list of favorite authors.

Getting To Know Linda Holbrook (plus a giveaway)

Hi Everyone!

Don't forget to stop by my blog between 5-7pm EST and ask author Linda Holbrook a question. She will be giving away a copy of her book to one lucky commenter. The only catch is that you have to write a review when you finish reading the book. You can gain extra entries by following her blog here but make sure you come back and leave a comment letting us know that you are now following Linda.

Review: For Love of Teddy by J. A. Fulkerson

For Love of Teddy is the story of two brothers, Michael and Teddy. When Teddy was young, he had an unfortunate accident that left them with a mental disability. Michael, the school's star basketball player blames himself for Teddy's problem. When the town drug dealer, Leo, tries to use Teddy to get Michael to deal for him, Michael becomes enraged. He will stop at nothing to shield his brother from a lifestyle he disagrees with.

This is a heartwarming read about brotherly love. I think this book would be wonderful for teenagers and a D.A.R.E. program.

Thank you to J.A. Fulkerson for sending me this book to review.

Review: GoneAway Into The Land by Jeffrey B. Allen

I just finished reading this book called "GoneAway Into The Land" by Jeffrey B. Allen. The author contacted me on Facebook and asked if I would review his book. I am so glad he did! It's an amazing story told with wonderful imagination.

GoneAway is the story of John, who is twelve years old and a victim of the abusive wrath of his father whom John renames, the Beast. The Beast takes off with John's younger sister, Marny. In order to save Marny, John and his mom venture into the Land. It is during their desperate search to find her that John decides he must destroy the Beast. Not only to protect himself and his mother from future abuse but to save his sister and the friends he has made in the Land. An evil plot developed by Minister Mengus may destroy the Land and everyone in it. Will John be able to save his sister and this new land he's come to love?

I would highly recommend this book to anyone who was once a kid. You will not be disappointed!

Giveaway: Testimony by Anita Shreve

BOOK INFORMATION: Testimony By Anita Shreve (taken from here)

At a New England boarding school, a sex scandal is about to break. Even more shocking than the sexual acts themselves is the fact that they were caught on videotape. A Pandora's box of revelations, the tape triggers a chorus of voices--those of the men, women, teenagers, and parents involved in the scandal--that details the ways in which lives can be derailed or destroyed in one foolish moment.

Writing with a pace and intensity surpassing even her own greatest work, Anita Shreve delivers in TESTIMONY a gripping emotional drama with the impact of a thriller. No one more compellingly explores the dark impulses that sway the lives of seeming innocents, the needs and fears that drive ordinary men and women into intolerable dilemmas, and the ways in which our best intentions can lead to our worst transgressions.

Giveaway: Made in the U.S.A. by Billie Letts

BOOK INFORMATION (taken from here)
The bestselling author of WHERE THE HEART IS returns with a heartrending tale of two children in search of a place to call home.

Lutie McFee's history has taught her to avoid attachments...to people, to places, and to almost everything. With her mother long dead and her father long gone to find his fortune in Las Vegas, 15-year-old Lutie lives in the god-forsaken town of Spearfish, South Dakota with her twelve-year-old brother, Fate, and Floy Satterfield, the 300-pound ex-girlfriend of her father.

While Lutie shoplifts for kicks, Fate spends most of his time reading, watching weird TV shows and worrying about global warming and the endangerment of pandas. As if their life is not dismal enough, one day, while shopping in their local Wal-Mart, Floy keels over and the two motherless kids are suddenly faced with the choice of becoming wards of the state or hightailing it out of town in Floy's old Pontiac. Choosing the latter, they head off to Las Vegas in search of a father who has no known address, no phone number and, clearly, no interest in the kids he left behind.

MADE IN THE U.S.A. is the alternately heartbreaking and life-affirming story of two gutsy children who must discover how cruel, unfair and frightening the world is before they come to a place they can finally call home.

"A heartbreaking tale about love, loss and survival that will stick with the reader long after the last page is turned." --- Publishers Weekly (Starred Review)

"Gripping...unflinching...Letts's best work since her stunning debut novel." --- Associated Press

"Heartfelt...Letts is at the top of her game." --- Dallas Morning News

"Deeply moving and entertaining."--- New York Post

Totally Relentless Contest

Q & A with Author Linda Holbrook (and interview & giveaway info)

I had the pleasure of asking Linda Holbrook a few questions and I would like to share it with you all. She is the author of a wonderful book called "You Wanna Go To Willard".

Stop back April 20th between 5-7pm EST to ask Linda questions of your own. She has been kind enough to offer one lucky commenter a copy of her book as long as they agree to post a review after reading it!

1) What made you decide to write a book?

It had always been something I thought about doing since I was young. It was my journaling during my divorce that took it to a new level. When I put everything I had written into a sequence and a diary format it seemed to be done. Then the book The Color Purple came out and I decided I could put my story into a book too.

2) How similar are you and Laura?

Laura and I are really the same person.

3) How did you come up with the title "You Wanna Go to Willard?"

The opening chapter is real, like 99% of the book. Back in my childhood people would put people who were different into Willard. One of my dedicated reader group people suggested I use the quote for the title. I liked it and thought it should get attention. So far, it has.

4) How long did it take you to write this book?

On and off probably 20 years. There was a lot of learning on my part along the way. I couldn't get the help I needed locally so I took a writing course and signed on with BookSurge. Still dealing with trial and error, I finally got it finished.

5) Are you currently working on any books?

Yes. I currently have another book near completion and have the outline for volume 2 of the Willard book as the sequel.

6) Who is your favorite author?

I love everything Mitch Albom has written.

7) If you could go anywhere in the world, where would you go?

I would go to Spain.

8) What's your favorite color?

White

9) What's your favorite food?

Homemade desserts

10) If you could only take 3 items to a deserted island, what would you take?

A mechanical pencil, tablet and a hatchet.

Review: You Wanna Go To Willard? by Linda Holbrook

Laura is convinced there is something wrong with her. It seems as though everyone in her life is determined to make her miserable. When she graduates from high school, her father tells her she cannot have a job on the family farm, where she has worked for as long as she can remember. This immediately sends Laura into panic mode. Deep down inside of Laura there is a strong, independent woman and she eventually forces herself to make changes in her life. She gets a job, a car, and even her own place. It seems everytime she steering her life in the right direction, she gets T-boned.

This is an amazing story of one woman's determination and the struggles she faces. It is a story of triumph. Anyone who has ever felt like they could not succeed should read this book. I love a good woman "kicking life in the ass" story!

Review: Sin & Vengeance by C.J. West

Taken from author's site:
"About Sin and Vengeance

'Fast, Sexy and Brutal ... This book deserves an A+ for head-spinning plotting and intricate surprises.'
Frank Joseph, Author, To Love mercy

'This debut mystery from C.J. West reads like an action movie ... the action in Sin and Vengeance is just as thick & fast.'
Narayan Radhakrishnan, Associate Reviewer, Rebecca's Reads

Temptation lures us toward those things we know we should resist. For Charlie Marston, temptation comes when he finds himself weakest. His football career has abruptly ended and he is left to hobble through life in a winemaking career his family has chosen for him.

Charlie enjoys winemaking, but working alongside his father is fraught with conflict. Soon Charlie is looking for a way out. He finds Randy Black, who is part stunt pilot and part drunken Pied Piper. Randy tempts Charlie with sinful indulgences and stunts that become more dangerous with each passing day. The novel begins as Randy introduces Charlie to Deirdre Deudon, the provocative wife of a local farmer. The tryst erupts, sending the three of them running to save themselves from the consequences."

My Thoughts:

Charlie, the son of a winemaker, dreams of becoming an NFL star until an injured knee shatters his dreams. His father Charles wants for him to one day take over the family business. Depressed and distraught, Charlie begins a friendship with Randy Black. Charlie learns a little to late that Randy is on a path to destruction.

Randy picks Deirdre and brings her Charlie. The three plan on having a very intimate evening together. Deirdre had placed an ad in the paper looking for some fun. What she didn't expect was her husband to walk in on her while committing adultery. Of course her husband is furious and a fight breaks out between the three men.

Charlie will learn of the skeletons in his father's closet and because of this the lives of these people will forever be entwined.

I really enjoyed this fast-paced, action packed, suspense filled book. The author has a way of keeping you wanting more. I'm desperately awaiting "A Demon Awaits" which picks up where "Sin & Vengeance" ended.
