Review: Sikulu & Harambe by the Zambesi River by Kunle Oguneye

Sikuli the spider and Harambe the hippo take a trip around Africa. They see a woman who needs help and Sikuli and Harambe are the only ones willing to help her. This is a wonderful story that teaches children to be helpful to others. My nephew enjoyed it a lot.

On Demand

Ondemand

Did you know that with Charter digital, you also have free access to On Demand? Are you interested in how you can learn more at charter.net/ondemand? You can watch over 6,000 movies and shows at your own pace. I like to watch TV sometimes but I can only get into it if it's what I want to do at that moment. I want to be able to watch what I want, when I want. This is why I love On Demand. Sometimes I'm out with my girls and I don't want to have to drop what I'm doing to race home so that I don't miss one of my shows. I also don't want to miss important plot lines, so this can be a little bit of a problem for me. With On Demand, I don't have to worry about this. Charter also has hundreds of shows in HD. You can get updates and fun extras on Charter’s Facebook page. One of the best parts is that you don't have to pay for this wonderful feature, it's already included with your digital price. Say goodbye to only being able to watch your show at it's scheduled time and say hello to when the time is right.

Breast Cancer Awareness

October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month and I would like to take this time to tell you about a couple of organizations that are fighting the battle against breast cancer. Cyro-Cell and the National Institutes of Health are working together by researching stem cells, in the hopes of finding a cure. I had no idea that menstrual blood is has tons of stem cells which are called C'elle stem cells. These C'elle stem cells are the main focus of research at this time.

There are two places that you can make a donation of your own: C'Elle Breast Cancer Donation
and Cyro-Cell Breast Cancer Donation

Cyro-Cell is offering $50 to the Susan B. Komen Foundation for each "Protect Baby, Protect Mom" service and $25 for each "C'elle Menstration Stem Cell" service purchased.

Have you lost someone close to you because of breast cancer? I'm interested in learning more about the advances in this type of stem cell research, how about you? I really hope that scientific research will soon produce a cure so that we don't lose the women in our lives to this devastating disease. If we can find a cure for this, maybe a cure for all the other deadly diseases will be found as well.

Review & Giveaway: Pynx by Jeffrey Greene

About This Book (copied from here):
In a distant galaxy, on a very colorful planet, a brilliant purple Pynx settles into her new home in the jungle. But her noisy arrival upsets the other fanciful creatures who are already living there quite happily. When the Pynx expands her family with dozens of new babies, her neighbors are very upset. The very vocal Pynx has had this problem before, but this time, with a little luck, she finds a real home. This is a story about being tolerant, learning to appreciate differences, and about finding ways to communicate.

My Thoughts:
My nephew absolutely adored this book. He went straight too it and made me read it to him right them. The story was very entertaining and teaches a lot of about communicating. This book gets 5 stars from me and Damien.

Rub-a-dub-dub

I've always wanted a separate bath and shower. I'm a little bit of a clean freak and I normally only soak in the tub after taking a shower. I also have to take a shower after cleaning, so this doesn't usually work out too well. If I had a separate one though, my troubles would be over. My dream house will have a Frameless Shower Enclosures with chrome clamps. The Glass Steam Shower Enclosures would be my second choice. I hope to one day purchase a fixer-upper and design every room in the house the way my husband and I want it.

Review & Giveaway: ON GO Energy

So my husband and I helped a couple of friends move and luckily I had received my sample of ON GO Energy because it took us 18 hours to move everything. That's mostly because Krista and I have bad backs so both of our husbands were doing all the heavy lifting. We were all four ready to keel over and fall fast asleep when I remembered the shots in my car. I brought them in and we all four took a shot and we were able to finish moving everything. I had never tried an energy drink before but let me tell you, this works much better than a can of pop.

ON GO Energy contains the following:

Niacin
Vitamin B6
Folic Acid
Vitamin B12
Amino Acids
Taurine
Malic Acid
Glucuronolactone
Caffeine
Ginseng
Electrolytes

Flavors:
Mandarin Orange
Berry Blast (my favorite)
Lemon Lime

ON GO Energy is giving one of my readers the following:
1 mixed 12 pack of ON GO Energy
1 ON GO Mesh Trucker Cap

I've seen the damage termites can cause. Have you? If not, you should take a look at termite damage pictures just in case your home is being considered dinner for these creatures. The sooner you realize the damage, the better because termites can cause a lot of damage in a short period of time.

Review: Nibble & Kuhn by David Schmahmann

Derek is excited because he may become partner at the law firm he works for. He's also very smitten with Maria, a co-worker. The problem is, Maria plans to marry someone else. When Derek is handed a case that he can't possibly win, he begins to panic.

This is an entertaining novel that is unlike anything I've read before. Derek is an extremely lovable character whose determination can't be thwarted.

Review: Pocket Calendars

I don't know what I would do without my calendars. I have one that is specifically for book reviews, one for other reviews and one for a family schedule. I could really use one of those pocket calendars. That way I could have a calendar with me at all times. I really like the Lexington Academic and the Clifton Pocket Calendar. It's tough to keep up with everything and if I didn't write it down, it's probably not going to happen. Life gets a little hectic and I need some type of system in place or something important may slip through the cracks.

Review & Giveaway: Bound To Shadows by Keri Arthur

Riley is half vampire and half werewolf. She has seen a lot of senseless killings bu never anything this sadistic. The party place where vampires and humans meet up to have some fun is now a spot of terror. Someone has thought up their own party. One where the party-goers loose their head, literally. Will Riley be able to track down this killer before too many more lives are lost?

To The Windows, To The Walls

The majority of the people I know are concerned about having an energy efficient home.  I want to make sure I'm doing all that I can for the environment, as well as saving money because you never know when you might need some extra cash.  Right now you can check out window replacement maryland and find out how you can save money by purchasing new energy efficient windows that are maintenance-free.  You can even choose between double pane or triple pane windows.  My biggest concern is a warranty because I don't want to shell out all that money without the security a warranty brings.  All American Sentry offers a lifetime service warranty.

Q & A

When did you know that you wanted to be a writer?

I have always written short stories since I could write. The first short story I wrote was about a horse and my brother did the drawings for the story. I never got to finish it. All my teachers said that I had a talent for writing and they encouraged me to improve my skills.

Who has been your biggest inspiration?

I love Agatha Christie novels.

How do you create the characters in your books? Are they based on people you know?

When I started to write Ginger High, I started a Journal and as I jotted down my ideas the characters would just come to me. Are the characters based on people I know…? Maybe, Maybe not. LOL.

What is the one book you think everyone should read?

I just read the book Restless by Wallace. The book was really good. I think everyone should read it. It is a perfect book for someone who does not like to read long books.

If you weren’t a writer, what be your profession?

I don’t know yet. I am presently taking American Sign Language and I find the class fascinating. I know that writing can be a hard profession and you may need a second career to fall back on.

If you could trade places with anyone in the world, past or present, real or fiction, who would it be and why?

Most people are expecting me to say ‘Nobody. I love my life now’ but I want to experience someone else’s as well. I have always been fascinated by King Arthur’s time. In my novel Ginger High, the World of Animist was based on that era.

If you were stranded on a desert island and could only have 3 things, what would they be?

I would need water, a lot of food, and ten people to keep me company.

What is your favorite movie of all time?

Um… not Twilight like most people would say but I love you, Beth Cooper was one of my favorites

What is the one thing that you want all your fans to know?

I love you! :D Yeah, that I love them all. Even though I don’t know them but you can love someone that you don’t know

If you could invite 5 people to dinner, who would they be and why?

Huh? Lol. Um, let’s see… I would want to eat with… Hugh Laurie, Olivia Wilde, Robert Sean Leonard, definitely Michelle Trachtenberg, and my grandparents.

Review & Giveaway - Mrs. O: The Face of Fashion Democracy by Mary Tomer

I've always wanted to be fashionable but it's impossible for me. I'm the type of girl who forgets she's wearing a skirt and sits the wrong way, giving a free peep show. I'm also the type of girl that can only wear chunky heels. Me and stilettos do not mesh well. They're gorgeous and I would love to be able to strut my stuff like a model but I'm also the girl who smacks into cardboard cut-outs and trips over her own feet. It just wasn't meant to be.

Just because I lack in the fashion area doesn't mean that I don't appreciate a woman who can accessorize. The photographs in this book are pure art. I'm extremely envious of the way Michelle Obama carries herself. She is a true diva, in a good way.

Golf

I'm not really into sports. For the most part, I find them to be boring. One activity that I do like is golf. There is something relaxing about swinging a golf club. Myrtle Beach Golf would be a great way to spend a vacation. There are several Myrtle Beach Golf Packages to fit different families needs.

Myrtle Beach Golf Vacations is great because you can spend your mornings on the beach and then have a relaxing afternoon. I'm not very good at this sport but I would rather enjoy doing something than be good at it. Plus, it's a great way to reduce stress. Golf Myrtle Beach, here I come!

Loan

With the current state of the economy, people are looking into more and more ways to save money or get money fast. Unexpected circumstances can present themselves at the worst possible time. Medical bills and other bills are having to be set aside so that people can keep a roof over their head and food in their mouths. The economic crisis is causing people to take out car title loans and Collateral loans, just so they can make it from day to day. It's a good thing that these people were able to get approved for these loans. I, personally, have witnessed several of my friends turn to loan companies within the past year because of lost jobs or cut hours. I haven't had any personal knowledge of anyone close to me taking out pink slip loans, but I can definitely see how they can help people when the time comes. A pink slip loan allows you to keep your car and they will loan you up to 60% of the value. I personally know a few people who have had to give up their house and/or car because of unexpected job lay-offs. How has the recession affected you and the people in your life? How do you think it will affect you in the future?

A Holiday Vacation

I've always dreamed of spending Christmas time in the mountains. I love the way it looks when there is snow all over the mountain tops and trees. I could possibly have my wish granted this year! The Ozark Mountain Christmas is celebrating the season with It's a Wonderful Life packages that start at only $329 per night. This offer is valid from November 15th until December 23rd. My favorite part of the Hilton Promenade at Branson Landing package is the spa treatment at Aspire Medical Spa. There are several stores and restaurants so your trip is sure to be a hit.

There's also a Santa's Coming To Town package you can book from November 15th through December 23rd at the Hilton Branson Convention Center Hotel for only $189 per night. You can spend time with Mrs. Claus and watch Santa deliver presents.

With over 50 live performance theaters, museums, attractions and more, you are sure to find ways to satisfy the whole family. This is a place that you could visit all year long and never get bored in. I would love to visit during the summer and be able to check out the three lakes. One fun fact is that it takes less than one day to drive to Branson for one-third of Americans.

Review & Giveaway - Relic of Time: The Rosary Chronicles by Ralph McInerny

The Virgin Mary made a visit to a poor man in Mexico 500 years ago. This man was wearing a very special cloak that included a picture of the Holy Mother and roses. This garment has gone missing. In an attempt to uncover the truth, Vincent starts looking for clues. What he finds is a huge mass of lies that has been covered up for centuries.

I love a good conspiracy theory. Ralph is a talented writer that can capture an audience in the matter of seconds. This is a masterpiece.

Blog Tour: The Longest Trip Home by John Grogan

I fell in love with Marley & Me, so when I found out that John also had memoir, I knew I just had to read it. This book tells the story of John's life before Marley came into the picture.

Like most children, John had a mischievous streak and he would sometimes try to pull one over on his parents. When John met Jenny, that's when he took his first step into manhood. The winding road to full adulthood can only come with a long trip home.

This is a lovely story about the life and the struggles we face to fully grow and become the person we were always meant to be.

Life Insurance

I love my family more than anything else in life. Once you get to be a certain age and you start a family of your own, it's a good time to think about investing in some Life Insurance. I have a very tight knit family. I talk to my husband, mom, dad and sister at least once a day. It may just be to say hi and I love you but I always make it a point to let the people in my life know that I care about them. I'm addicted to my nephew and I count the majority of my friends as family. When one of us is suffering, all of us are suffering. I have never believed the "blood is thicker than water" saying. Blood doesn't make you family, life does. The last thing I want for them to be burdened with when it's my time to go, is money. I don't want to leave them a huge heap of debt to worry about. Life will always throw you unexpected curve balls and I've learned that it pays to be prepared for everything you possibly can. I want to be able to live without the fear of my family dealing with unneeded financial strain.

Author Guest Post:
Writing about Animals

First, I’d like to thank Bridget for having me here as part of my blogging tour to promote my debut novel, The Last Will of Moira Leahy. Bridget left the door wide open for me to talk about whatever I liked, so I did a little snooping around her blog to learn more about her. I was happy to see her write about her love of dogs! As it so happens, a dog plays a somewhat important role in my novel. I’d love to tell you a little about that.

Like Bridget, I’m an animal lover—I have a Jack Russell terrier, and I have a cat. When I first started writing The Last Will, I decided that the main character, Maeve Leahy, would have a cat (Sam). When Maeve’s father decides to come for a surprise visit, he brings his best friend—his dog, Sparky. Sam essentially hides for the duration of Sparky’s visit, but Sparky is present in several scenes. In the story that sold to Random House, Sparky was a fun addition to the book but she wasn’t really essential. My editor asked me to amp up the tension in the first part of the story, though, and so I decided to ask something of my canine character.

My furry friend came through for me.

How Sparky is left outside in a sleet storm became one of the first of many odd events that Maeve would eventually have to sort through in order to better understand herself, her secret past with her twin sister, Moira, and the artifact she purchases one night at an auction. I imagined what my dog might do if left outside for hours in bad weather—howl, raise a fuss. I imaged how she’d behave afterwards, her need to cuddle after a warm bath, to nuzzle more deeply under the blankets. I included those details and more into the story.

Because I’m an animal lover, I’m sure pets of all varieties will find their way into my books—writing about them is just plain fun. If you read The Last Will of Moira Leahy, I hope you enjoy the inclusion of Sparky, Wonder Dog, as much as I did.

Happy reading!
