Seeing Is Believing

Have you ever wondered why prescription eyeglasses cost so much? They are a necessity for some people and that means they have to fork over tons of money just to be able to see clearly. I hate to see people suffering because of their inability to pay lots of money for certain items.

The majority of the people in my family and most of my friends wear eyeglasses. The biggest complaint that most of them have is outrageous prices. Zenni Optical has reasonable prices for high quality glasses. The best part is, you don't have to trade style for price. Hip and trendy glasses are available and made using the latest technology. How can they sell prescription glasses at a reasonable price? It's easy, they cut out the middleman.

Zenni provides full prescription eyeglasses for as little as $8 a pair. That is an unbelievable price when you consider how much it would cost at other places. Even the shipping cost is cheap.

These glasses would be perfect for me because I usually end up losing or breaking mine. I don't see the point in spending lots of money on something that can break so easily. I'm like a disaster waiting to happen. It's better if I just stick with the cheap stuff, just ask my husband.

Do It Or Age Quickly by JB Berns

Aging is going to happen whether we like it or not and we have no control over that. We do, however, have the ability to delay the aging process if we are willing to take a little time out of our day to do a little something extra for our bodies and mind. Do It Or Age Quickly is full of simple tasks to do in only 60 seconds and while it won't stop the fact that we are going to get older, it will help you postpone looking and feeling older.

The 21 techniques mentioned in his book are meant to help both your body and your brain. I learned a lot about natural tooth whiteners that don't harm your teeth and tea that boosts your immune system. The stretches are probably my favorite topic because they are easy to do even after being in a car accident and having other physical problems. Help yourself and check out this book.

Overnight Mattress Complaints

With every product I purchase I expect quality customer service. I am the type of person that will boycott a store because of rude employees or horrible service. In today's world it is a lot easier to find out what type of company values certain stores have just by the reviews listed on different websites. When searching for bedroom furniture, my husband and I looked up different Overnight Mattress complaints and weren't able to find many at all. There is always going to be one or two people who hate every product available, so my usual suggestion is to try it out yourself. If there are hundreds of complaints, I would steer clear. One of the really great things about this company is that they offer a 120 night risk free trial of memory foam mattresses and then if you have Overnight Mattress complaints, you can get a full refund. They will even cover the cost of shipping the mattress back to their store. If the mattress you return is in good condition, they will donate it to someone in need. The only time you will not receive 100% of your money back because of Overnight Mattress complaints would be if there are stains, hairs, tears, etc. In this case, you would only receive 85% of the purchase price for a refund.

She works with the Gilead Commission and sometimes she's not sure who is a bigger pain in her butt, the Fallen or the ones she is working for. Someone wants the dagger that is millions of years old and they won't let anything stand in their way.

Khefar is thousands of years old and the person who holds the a very important dagger. They have to work together to try to take down the tyrant who is terrorizing Atlanta looking for the precious dagger. Will they be able to battle the Shadow victoriously or will they fall victim to the evil quest?

Kira is a bad ass on a mission. This girl doesn't let anything get in her way. I loved her attitude in the book and she is one of the few characters I've read about that come to life in my mind. Two thumbs up!

Check Engine Light

Every time a check engine light goes off and I'm around, I want to get to an auto shop fast. The recalls for different makes and models has me nervous. I love having a car and I love being able to go from point a to point b. If the check engine light is on, I might as well not have a car because there's no way I will drive it.

Lucky for me, my husband loves to drive and he will go where he needs to go as long as he feels it's safe. He has been looking at the Ford F-150 and to be honest, he's been drooling. If he gets his dream truck, I'm sure he won't care what light comes on, he will still be out cruising. We are planning to visit some of my family in California, I already know where we can take our car, San Diego auto repair.

I'm always trying to find new skin care products, especially the ones that are designed to fight the signs of aging. Even though I am only 27, I still think that by trying to prolong the signs of aging at a young age will be beneficial. One think I like to do is mix up my routine. I like to have three different shampoos, soaps and skin care products. This may not be true for some people, but it seems like my hair and skin start to reject a product if I use it daily for three or four days. This is why I like to mix it up.

My mom, grandma and granny all used Oil of Olay creams and only had great things to say about it. I started using the brand a few years ago and it just wasn't for me. I didn't like the smell or the feel. I've found some other really great facial creams that work a lot better for my dry skin.

There are so many new skin care products on the market that promise younger, firmer skin. While some of them seem to work wonders, others just don't live up to their name. One thing that I really like are those roll-on eye creams. They are so easy to use and I think that they will be around for a long time.

Swan Thieves by Elizabeth Kostova Audio Book

Andrew works as a psychiatrist but his passion is painting. His life is pretty ordinary and he isn't used to making rash decisions or acting "spontaneously". When he faces a patient that had an episode at an art museum, he finds himself drawn to the man in ways beyond his imagination. His patient, Robert, has captured Andrew's imagination and set him on a path to find out what happened in Robert's life that has made him the person that he is. Soon, Andrew finds out more than he bargained for.

Elizabeth is a natural-born storyteller. I was immediately drawn into Andrew's life and felt like I was the one conversing with his patient, Robert. This masterpiece should not be missed by any book lover.

Moonlight Falls by Vincent Zandri

Richard (AKA Dick) used to be a detective but now is a P.I. Dick had a failed suicide attempt that left a bit of a bullet near his cerebral cortex. It would be more dangerous for doctors to try to remove the piece, so he is left with the burden of memory lost and the ability to distinguish right from wrong.

When his lover, Scarlet, is killed in what looks like a fit of rage, Dick can't help but wonder if he is the one responsible for her death. What's even more unsettling is that Scarlet is married to Dick's boss.

Moonlight Falls
is a brilliant whodunnit. A thrilling tale with amazing characters who come to life page after page. I'm so glad I had the opportunity to read this book. Mystery/Thriller fans everywhere need to get their hands on a copy.

How To Find A Woman...Or Not by Gary Morgenstein

For those of you who are new blog followers I must let you know that Gary Morgenstein is one of the authors on my top 10 favorites of all time. His book, Jesse's Girl was so awesome that I have told everyone I know to read it and they all say the same thing, "I loved it!" Anywho, he's done it once again, written a book that has hit a deeper part of me than most authors ever get to.

When you are trying to find a significant other a good way to pass some time or meet some great people is to see the world as a big singles bar. I have met some really great people while walking my dog or shopping at a store. Sometimes it turned into a relationship and sometimes it didn't. But how will you ever meet the right person if you aren't putting yourself out there? Gary's tips are right on point when it comes to a romantic relationship or even just a kindred spirit. Romantic relationships take a lot of time and effort, but so do lasting friendships.

This book was so much fun to read. Gary has a way with words that I can't quite describe in words. If you are single or even just looking to make some new connections, this book might be just the thing your looking for.

Read an Excerpt:
Highly addictive, online dating is like shopping through a catalog with the easy option to return the package.
MORGY ONLINE DATING RULES
1. It’s a numbers game, the romantic equivalent of Operation Shock and Awe
2. You must sign up for as many sites as you can afford/have time for
3. Never get discouraged — odds are astronomical against you
4. Do not check dating site messages at work — unemployment reduces your attractiveness
Like the Yellow Brick Road, it is best to start with the picture.
Yes, we all need witty profiles and a sea of fascinating interests, but the first thing a woman does is look at your picture. If they say feh and feh, you’re toast, guys.
These are bad ideas for profile photos.
1. You waking in the morning with a sinus infection
2. Coming out of anesthesia
3. Going under anesthesia
4. Handcuffed, officially or unofficially
5. Tight jeans
6. Screaming at your kids
7. Hoisting brews with your buds dressed like a Viking
8. Spray-painted in your favorite football team’s colors
9. Showing ANY private parts or parts contiguous to private parts, you know what I’m talking about
10. Wheeling your mother raises questions whether you’re a Momma’s Boy
11. Jokingly kissing another man creates suspicions because you sure don’t look that upset about a guy’s tongue in your ear
12. Kissing another woman underscores all their doubts about a man’s fidelity
13. Never friggin’ frowning — women don’t want a farbissineh (Yiddish for sourpuss)
As with everything else, women look at our pictures differently. I’ve often asked my friend Sid before one of his dates, so what does this woman do for a living and he says, I dunno, I just looked at her picture.
Women don’t operate quite that way. While the instant repulsive factor certainly works as much for them as us, they’re already calculating emotional possibilities based primarily on your picture.
1. Will you be fun?
2. Will you beat them with a strap?
3. Can you be trusted with a joint checking account?
And on and on, like the computers which guide probes to Jupiter. You can try and deceive them, but they’re way ahead of you at every turn. They are trained to be suspicious of us. Which is why I strongly urge you to be honest in your online profile. I can’t control their honesty, but at least I can work on our end.
Photo Tips.
You can’t show up for a date and lay a cardboard cutout on the chair while you hide by the bar, answering remotely. You must be there in the flesh, boys. That means if you have a receding hairline or none at all, don’t show the picture of you in the old ‘fro. If you have gray hair, that shot of you with black locks won’t cut it. And taking a picture of yourself on your tippy toes is dumb. If you’re short, you’re short. Get over it.
1. Take a recent photo. All you need is one, preferably with the date embedded in the corner, showing you look like who you are
2. Not too close, which might show old acne scars
3. Smile. You are happy to meet her. You are looking at each other
4. Show off your best features: smile, hair, clothing, the Maserati, two-level home, boat, beautiful dog, expensive furniture, anything suggesting you’re worth a conversation
5. If you have a kid, post a shot of you together — but ask them as a matter of privacy. They might not want their photos in this setting
6. Post a casually dressed photo and one of you in a suit so she can imagine you on a Saturday night as well as leaving her apartment in the morning heading for work

Already Hosting

I don't know much about web hosting but I do know a thing or two (or more) about reviews. Whenever I am researching a topic, I always search the web and try to gain as much knowledge as possible before making a purchase or decision. I really like it when I find a site that has done the majority of the work for me. This way I can compare apples to apples and find out which option fits my particular needs. The prices for the top ten are really reasonable. They range from $1.99 ot $6.95.

I still haven't made up my mind about starting a website and keeping my blog or making the switch to a website only. I have checked out some web hosting rankings via alreadyhosting.com and they have done the hard work for me. The top 10 web hosts for this year are placed on the first page and numbered according to their reviews. With so many features to choose from, it's nice to be able to find out what each host offers. There are also several articles, coupons and tools available. One of my favorite features for some of these sites are the free domain name and unlimited bandwidth.

Willow by Julia Hoban

Willow has to an extremely unsettling tragedy to live with. When her parents were too buzzed on alcohol to drive, Willow was handed the task of getting them home safely. Unfortunately, the only one who survives the drive home is Willow. Now she beats herself up repeatedly for the death of her mom and dad. When the pain gets to be too much to bear, she becomes a cutter. She has to wear long sleeves even when it's hot outside because she is terrified that someone will figure out her secret.

While working in the university library, Willow meets a guy named Guy. He doesn't know how to take all of the "go away" vibes that Willow is sending his way. For a little while, she forgets about mentally abusing herself and actually has an honest conversation with him. Soon though, the torment resurfaces. Guy isn't going to walk away easily, he won't back down. Will Willow deprive herself of a true and genuine person or will she fall victim to his charm and live happily ever after?

I became engrossed in this book after the first couple of pages. As a person who suffers from depression, I found this book to be right on target with personality and mental abuse that can be done to oneself. Julia is a true genius whose book has the power to touch even the hardest heart.

Getting To Know Julia:

When did you know that you wanted to be a writer?

I don’t know that I ever sat down and said “I want to be a writer.” It’s more that the time came when I could no longer avoid making that choice. I’ve been writing since I could hold a crayon, and in fact submitted my first “professional” effort at the age of eight. I entered a poem in a contest --- and came in 39th out of a field of 40. But although I always wrote and always wanted to write, I had several detours on the way to working as a professional. First I went to grad school in physics and philosophy, which although fascinating was not the most direct route towards becoming a writer…. I tell you all this to encourage those among your readers who themselves are considering a writing career, but who haven’t yet made the jump. That’s OK! Not everyone is able to pursue their dreams right away. Sometimes life gets in the way, practical decisions have to be made, or the idea of following an unconventional path seems too daunting. But that doesn’t mean that you won’t ever be able to make that choice, and in fact, sometimes the paths that you take on the way to that choice (in my case physics) will be of greater use to you than you realize.

Who has been your biggest inspiration?

Well. I have many inspirations. There are people whose stories have affected me at different times, and for different reasons. I’ve always adored Julia Child, and I simply worship Thomas Jefferson and Isaac Newton. But, when I was working on Willow, the person whose story really kept me going was Madeline L’engle. I don’t know if you ever read A Wrinkle in Time, but you really should, immediately! Here’s a book that went on to become a classic of juvenile literature, yet the book, and its author (L’engle) went through the worst rejection on the path to publication. Willow also was not an easy sell, and during the worst of my setbacks, I often thought of Ms L’engle.

How do you create the characters in your books?  Are they based on people you know?

My characters are certainly an amalgam of my imagination, and people that I know. Many readers have asked me if I’ve ever met anyone as “perfect” as Guy. (Their words, not mine!) And my answer is always “Reader I married him!” Guy is indeed based on my husband, I have to stop saying that though, as every time my husband hears that he gets more and more conceited!

What is the one book you think everyone should read?

There is no one book specifically. Many of my readers ask for recommendations, and I often give several. I think every young woman should read Tess, by Thomas Hardy. I like to see the high school students who get in touch with me read The Glass Menagerie, by Tennessee Williams. Few American writers used language or tore at the heart strings the way Williams did. I suggest The Railway Children by Edith Nesbitt to people of all ages, and I don’t know how people get through the day without a good Sherlock Holmes story.

If you weren’t a writer, what be your profession?

Well, as I mentioned before, I went to graduate school in physics and philosophy, and some part of me could see going back to school. Then I remember how much homework was involved and I shudder! I do quite a bit of design one way or another --- my own clothes, and I’ve done some furniture, so I could see doing that more seriously. I’ll tell you though, I don’t know how many of you have seen some of the videos of the baby pandas born at the San Diego zoo in the fall? Now I’m not thinking of being a vet, but if I could be the person who carries the panda into the exam…. They redefine adorable!

If you could trade places with anyone in the world, past or present, real or fiction, who would it be and why?

Hmmm, that’s a hard one, as there are many compelling choices. But just because I mentioned Sherlock Holmes before, I’m going to go with Irene Adler, the one and only woman who bested him! (In the stories, I haven’t seen the new film yet!)

If you were stranded on a desert island and could only have 3 things, what would they be?

Sunblock!!!!! That would be the first, something to write with would be the second, so I could record my impressions while I was waiting to be rescued, and a cell phone that worked, so I could be rescued!

What is your favorite movie of all time?

I don’t have one favorite, but I’m mad for old films --- I’m going to go with Sunset Boulevard, Gilda, Casablanca, Wuthering Heights, Mr. Smith Goes to Washington and The Scarlet Pimpernel.

What is the one thing that you want all your fans to know?

The one thing I want all my fans to know is how much their truly heartfelt responses to Willow have meant to me. Truly, I never expected my book to elicit that kind of reaction, and I have honestly been humbled by some of the letters that I’ve gotten. I very much hope that sounds sincere because it is. The one thing that I’d like people who haven’t read Willow yet to know is that, while the story itself sounds rather grim, the themes that Willow explores aren’t nearly so dire. Willow is really about hope, about redemption, and above all, about the power of love to heal. Now Willow is not the right book for everyone, no question, but I’d like to assure your readers who are a little … let’s say, frightened by the sound of it, that many, many people have told me that they found it to be a very uplifting book, a very hopeful book, and above all a very romantic book.

If you could invite 5 people to dinner, who would they be and why?

How about the top three? I’d like to have a little luncheon with the following people. The first would be Lincoln. Now, there are many, many reasons to split a sandwich with Lincoln, but the main reason I’d invite him is because, as a writer, I’m in awe of his extraordinary command of the language. For sheer beauty, The Second Inaugural and Gettysburg, rank with John of Gaunt’s deathbed speech from Shakespeare’s Richard II, as some of the greatest prose ever written. Then I think Julia Child should join us, as she was such a bon vivant that she’d make any gathering go. I’d like to go on record here by saying that I’ve always adored the divine Julia, and I’m thrilled by the current interest in her. Of course I’d ask her to make the lunch. This may sound rude to put a guest to work, but I think she’d be happy to oblige. I’m going to guess she’d go with something classic like a roast chicken. I’m picturing a little tarragon sauce on the side, and an incredibly rich dessert, like a chocolate mousse. Of course, as with Lincoln, there are countless reasons to admire Julia Child, but I will always be indebted to her for teaching my husband to make omelets! The third person I’d like to have over would be Isaac Newton. Now Newton was reputed to be something of a curmudgeon, and would probably bring the group down somewhat, although he might brighten up at Julia’s dessert…. But I really feel I owe Isaac a great deal, and it would be rude not to have him over for at least one meal. I went to graduate school in Physics, and while I slept through many lectures, there was one thing I learned that I have never forgotten. Isaac Newton was asked how it was that he was able to achieve such extraordinary things, so far outside the realm of most people. He replied with five words: “By thinking of nothing else.” Few of us will ever have the extraordinary capacity of Newton, but all of us can apply that dictum to whatever work we are engaged in. We must, in fact, apply that dictum. We must have that level of commitment if we are to get the best out of ourselves.

Philly Ad Words

Having a website is a lot of fun but it's also a lot of work. I'm able to stay at home and work online but some people don't have that option. I have been fortunate enough to find different ways of monetizing my blog. The best way to get started is to check out other blogs and take some notes about what you like. Then you can tailor your blog how you want it.

Once that is done, it's time to start thinking about how to earn some extra cash. There is a helpful website that talks about Pay Per Click in Philadelphia Google advertising. They also have information on Philadelphia Adwords and SEM in Philadelphia, SEM is Search Engine Marketing.  It takes a lot of research and time finding what will work best for you.

When I first started doing this, it was purely for fun. As I processed more information and got a handle on blogging, I realized that I could make a living doing something that I really care about. That's what enables me to host all of these wonderful giveaways and review products. If I had a full-time job outside the home, I would never be able to do what I am doing right now. Thank you to all of my lovely readers!

Mr. Darcy's Great Escape by Marsha Altman

Mr. Darcy's Great Escape
is a continuation of the beloved classic Pride and Prejudice. Marsha's third book in the Darcys and Bingleys series is as enticing as the previous books, even though some of the events were so far fetched.

It is the year 1812 and Darcy sets out to search for a missing family member. With Dr. Maddox in tow they set off on their mission. Little did they know, they were going to be abducted and held prisoner in Transylvania. When word reaches Pemberley, a search and rescue team is determined to rescue Darcy and Maddox.

Parts of this book were laugh out loud funny. If you like to see where different authors can build a sequel to a classic, then this is probably up your alley.

Dare To Surrender by Lilli Feisty

A curvy woman named Joy is anything but secure with her body. She works with art for a living and has so far, always kept her inner wild child at bay. When she discovers that her job is in jeopardy, she lets her hair down and asks an artist to bring his current work the gallery she works for. He agrees but only after getting something in return. He wants to create a piece of art using her as the model. Joy's life will never be the same again.

This book is full of steamy encounters that leave you breathless. I really enjoyed reading this book. The descriptions were crystal clear and the plot was well developed.

Getting Into Trouble

I can still remember when I was in grade school. We lived in San Diego, California and that's where I spent my first three years of school. One of the most vivid memories from that time in my life was when I looked up and saw my school on fire on the news. Would you like to know who started the fire? A fourth grade gang. Seriously. I'm sure their parents had to find one of Los Angeles Juvenile Crime Defense Lawyers. When I tell this story, so many people are shocked and don't want to believe me. I can't imagine being a parent and finding out that my child could do something so cruel. The truth of the matter is, stuff like this happens everywhere and it doesn't discriminate. It doesn't care if you are in California or Northern Kentucky. While in high school, someone took a shot at our school doors. We received several bomb threats, sometimes multiple bomb threats in the same day. I witnessed riots in downtown Cincinnati. I saw people pick up a parked car and move it with only their hands. Even though some laws were broken, everyone is entitled to a fair trial. The saying "which is worse, sending an innocent man to prison or letting the guilty go free" comes to mind. It's a difficult question and even more difficult to answer.

Cuss Control by James V. O'Connor

I'm sure most of you have heard me brag about my smart, handsome nephew who is two years old. If not, here's a pic:

Isn't he just the cutest little booger? Anyway, when I stub my toe or drop something on the floor, my first reaction is to, as my mother would say, become a foul-mouthed heathen. I started trying to cut back on the amount of inappropriate baby/kid language before he was born but so far, I haven't quite mastered it.

James is the founder of Cuss Control Academy and he has tips to share about how to stop cursing as much and why we curse in the first place. This book helps people to cut back on the bad words and use other, friendlier words in it's place. I have often wondered why cussing is usually used when frustrated or hurt. If we can't react in a to a situation without stress, it causes us to verbally eliminate the frustration. By thinking happier thoughts and not sweating the little things, you can adjust your normal language into something that is rated PG instead of R.

My favorite part about this book was the exercises. I found them to be insightful and I have already put them in practice. So far I have only dropped the f-bomb once today. Go me!

The Postmistress by Sarah Blake

Frankie is on the radio reporting the Blitz. She finds herself in a bomb shelter and meets a doctor who is desperate to send a letter. Since Frankie's current occupation has her traveling, she gives this doctor her word that she will see the letter delivered.

A postmistress named Iris decided to withhold a letter. Frankie and Iris find that their lives are entangled in ways beyond their imagination.

This is a breathtaking novel that includes love, secrets and the human spirit. I really enjoyed Sarah's writing style and character development. Two thumbs up!

Moxie

Death is a part of life and it is something that no one can escape. How do you explain to a child that a loved one has a deadly disease and will probably only live for a short period of time? I cannot imagine what it must feel like to bring this news to a child's attention.

In order for a child to understand, you must speak to them on their level. I found Moxie to be both informative and uplifting. Even though death is not something we can easily understand, friendship and support allow you to grow from the experience.

I think that this book should appear in grade schools all over. My nephew is two and he's already had to attend two different funerals. Dealing with Cancer isn't an easy thing but this book will help whether you are young or just young at heart.

You can purchase a copy of Moxie here for $10. $5 from every book sold will go to Kids Konnected.

Furry Friends

I love my all three of my dogs so much. They are so different when it comes to personality traits but the one thing they all have in common is that they love us unconditionally. My dog named Precious is an angel. She never runs off and you can communicate with her like she is human. If you say excuse me, she moves. If you tell to stay, she will stay. We never took her to obedience training or anything like that and I brought her home when she was eight weeks old. Still to this day she amazes me. Bubba on the other hand likes to take off down the street is he somehow gets loose. Reese is somewhere in between. If she gets distracted, then she takes off but for the most part she stays right by my side. The love I have for these four-legged creatures is unexplainable and if I were to lose one of them, the devastation would be unbearable.

If you love your furry companions like I do, you should know this new helpful tool. By visiting the Lost Pet Amber Alert website, you can now enter your pets information and it will go out just like the Amber Alert for children. Local vets, police, groomers, etc will each be notified of your missing dog or cat. This is such a great resource for pet lovers everywhere.

Miche Bag

My husband has trouble sleeping sometimes and when that happens, he is usually watching TV.  There was an infomercial on the Miche Bag and he told me to look it up online.  As soon as I saw this, I knew I had to have it!   What is the big deal about this bag?  Check this out:

You start out with a plain black bag, which you can carry as is, or you can add a shell and transform it into a whole new purse! The best part is, you don't have to switch items from one purse to another.  The shell is held in place with magnets.  This idea is pure genius!

Here's how it works:

Here is my favorite shell:
I started using it the day I received it in the mail and I love it so much!  I just want to lay a big ole wet kiss on it!  Plus, I am the envy of all of my female friends.  Here's another shell that I received to review:

This one is on my wish list:

The small Miche Base Bag can be purchased in black or brown for $34.99.

A large Miche Bag is also available.  This bag is enormous!  My friend Krista said that if she gets one, she would use it as a diaper bag and a purse.  Here is what the base looks like:

I love how the base bag can be used all by it's self.  This bag also has several places to keep different items organized.  This is probably the best invention for women that I have ever seen.  I still can't get over how easy and cost effective this is.  My favorite large bag is this one:

This one is on my wish list:

The large Miche Base Bag is available for $39.95.

You even have the option to customize your own Miche Bag.  I love everything about this bag.  It is so easy to organize all of the belongings that I keep in my purse.  Adjustable straps can be purchased if you are interested in a longer straps or handles.
